Winter in Door County…

With the recent snow storm yesterday, there will be plenty of snow for this weekend’s festivities.  Fish Creek is the hub of all the activities with their annual Winter Festival. Food, music, human Foosball, a chili cook off just to name a few.  Festivities start on Friday with Ice Sculpture Carving at Clark Park from 1-4 and Rock and Roll Art Night at Hands on Art Studio from 6:30 to 10 pm.  Big Mouth (yes, I said BIG MOUTH!) will be playing and it is a BYO event… sorry kids, it’s adults only.

Saturday things really kick in.  Here’s the scoop…

9am – 10am ‘Body Pump’ – Northern Door YMCA

10am – 5pm   In and around the large, heated tent in Clark Park (all proceeds from Saturday’s event benefit Door County non-profit organizations. Thank you for your support!):

GAMES INSIDE the TENT – Minnow Racing, Sasquatch Ball Toss, Pirate Bean Bag Toss, Snowflake and Winter Fairies Crafts, Pie Tin Toss, Marshmallow Shootout, Wheel of Fortune & Paddle Raffle

GAMES OUTSIDE the TENT – Toilet Seat Toss, Face Painting, Kids Obstacle Course, Ice Bowling, Football Toss, Crazy Golf, Bike Toss, Hockey Shot, Basketball Shoot, Wheel of Meat & Hunter’s Darts.

Human Foosball

TASTY FOOD & DRINK – Beer, Brats, hot dogs, pork sandwiches, popcorn, make-your-own-s’mores, hot chocolate, coffee, hot cider, baked goods, glogg and more!

LIVE DJ   – fun music all day

10am – Noon     Ice Sculpture Carving at Clark Park

10am – 5pm     Human Foosball Tournament, on the ice behind the tent

10am – 3pm     Chainsaw Carver, Dave Bartels at Hide Side Corner Store

10am – 5pm     Winter Wine & Cherry Festival at Orchard Country Winery

10:30am     Winter Festival Parade down Mainstreet – all are welcome to participate         (800) 577-1880

10:30 – 11am     Chili Cook-Off participants to bring their crockpots to the tent (800) 577-1880

11am – 5pm     FREE Trolley Rides throughout town

11am – 3pm     “SOUP!” Homemade Soup and Bowls at Peninsula School of Art (Proceeds benefit Habitat for Humanity.

Noon           Chili Cook-Off Judging at the tent, with $5 bowls for all to sample

1pm              Four-person Tandem Ski Race, on the ice north of the tent

5:30pm     FIREWORKS DISPLAY – outside the tent, over the frozen bay

5:30 – 8pm     Candlelight Ski/Hike at Peninsula State Park – (920) 868-3258

7 – 9pm    JT & the Clouds/Birds of Chicago at Door Community Auditorium

9:30pm – 12:30am     Live music by Big Mouth and the Power Tool Horns at Alexander’s

 

In addition, the ever popular Cherry Pit Spit (1:30) will be held at Lautenbach’s Orchard Country in conjunction with their Winter Wine and Cherry Fest. Worried about parking? Don’t be, the Door County Trolley will be offering free Trolley Rides all day through Fish Creek.

 

Festivals not your thing?  Check out the Silent Sports Door County Insiders blog for cross county skiing, ice fishing and any other quiet sports for suggestions.  Egg Harbor has shops and businesses open for business with lots of winter sales as well. Mojo Rosa’s, Shipwrecked, Casey’s, Village Cafe (breakfast and lunch) and John Henry’s are all open for lunch and dinner.
