Our son Joe came home from college this weekend and even though it was cold ( a balmy 15 degrees) he wanted to go ice fishing. He and his uncle built an ice shanty complete with a wood stove and this would be the maiden voyage. I waited until they got it out on the ice before I decided to head down to Horseshoe Bay which is where they launched it. I had made ham and cheese sandwiches in tin foil with thoughts of cooking them on top of the wood stove. I called him when I got close to Horseshoe Bay so he could pick me up on the four wheeler. There is plenty of ice but none of the people fishing had their trucks on the ice so we didn’t either. The shanty was about a mile and a half out. Here is a little video I took…
I even tried my hand at fishing. Jacob and I each caught one at the same time, we even saw it on the video screen but our lines got tangled in the camera line and we both lost them. After that the camera died and so did my interest in fishing. We caught a total of one small whitefish but beggars can’t be choosey. There was a beautiful Door County sunset and the ride back wasn’t nearly as cold as the ride in. Next week… it is Mark’s turn to go. I am planning on hanging out with my girls on land.
