I just discovered the White Cliff Nature Preserve thanks to one of our guests.  It is in Egg Harbor on White Cliff Road.  I’m sure I have driven by it numerous of times.  The preserve features a wetland complex, mature forest and the Niagara Escarpment.  The preserve also features a 30-acre fen fed by alkaline groundwater that passes through dolomitic limestone.

The White Cliff Nature Preserve was owned by Ferdinand Hotz.  Ferdinand was a wealthy jeweler from Chicago, and in the early 1900s owned more land than any other landowner in Door County.  He even owned the land that is now Newport State Park.  The preserve remains much the same as the day Ferdinand laid eyes on it over 100 years ago.

From our lodge, you head north and take a left on Harbor Heights Road.  At the bottom of the hill turn right onto White Cliff Road.  Continue one mile to the trailhead located at 8248 White Cliff Road.  Enjoy your walk!
