Fabulous Door County Boat Ride

Last fall we went to an amazing benefit for  a local Door County man Randy Pluff at Gordon Lodge.  So many people turned out and a great time was had by all.  We were the high bidders on a boat ride for up to sixteen people donated by Shoreline Cruises.  I made reservations about a month ago and talked to Ronnie Robinson, the owner.  She was so nice and assured me if the weather wasn’t nice they’d reschedule. The ride was for an 1 1/2 hours so I added another 1 1/2 hours to make it three. So Saturday, Mark rented Institute Saloon’s van so all 13 of us could drive up together.  We stopped at the Piggly Wiggly in Sister Bay to pick up 3 huge subs for only ten bucks a piece (and they were delicious by the way).  This particular boat is in Gills Rock behind the Shoreline Restaurant.  We met Jim Robinson the owner and his first mate Judy.

We piled all of our gear on the boat and away we went. Judy asked “So where are all of you from?” And simultaneously we all answered HERE!  She laughed.  We were really just looking for a day with our family out on the water as opposed to getting a tour and Jim and Judy did an excellent job for us. We asked if we would be able to swim off the boat Jim replied yes, but no one had ever asked that before.  We took a ride to Garrett Bay where my girlfriend Nancy has a cottage.  Jim anchored the boat, lowered the swim deck and we all (well most of us) jumped in. F.R.E.E.Z.I.N.G.!  But the day was super warm and sunny so we loved it.  After that Jim took us to Washington Island and on the way Judy asked if we wanted to see some lighthouses.  I asked Joe…”Hey Joe, do we want to see lighthouses?”  And again in unison…NO!  We are so low brow.  Jim pulled in to the Sailor’s Pub on the other side of the island and we sat out on the deck and had a drink.  After that our three hours were pretty much up so we headed back.  It was truly fabulous.  What a great day.  All of our kids went and some of their close friends as well.  Thanks Jim, Ronnie and Judy, we had a blast!

I had made brats in the morning so I just heated them back up for an easy dinner at home.  Our friend Jeremiah had made a Cajun salmon as well so we had a feast and a fire. We are so lucky to have this nice family.  Thanks God…

Next up…THE FOURTH OF JULY!!! Stay tuned…
