Haven’t decided what to do this weekend with your Valentine? Door County is the place to be. Check out the Door County Nature of Romance packages offered at DoorCounty.Com. All of the cross county ski trails and snowmobile trails are currently open. There will be a Candlelight Ski, Hike and Snowshoe at Newport State Park complete with a bonfire and refreshments. The weather will warm up this weekend which will make the outdoor activities more enjoyable.
Or how about a Door County Trolley ride? Guests will taste at two Door County award-winning wineries, followed by a cozy sleigh ride through the Door’s wintry landscapes. Top it all off with a fireside lunch at the historic White Gull Inn.

Many Door County Restaurants are offering Valentine’s Specials over the weekend. Inclined to hunker down at home? Make breakfast with my famous waffle recipe for your Valentine(s). My mother-in-law gave me this recipe many years ago.
1 1/2 cup sour milk or butter milk (see note)
1 tsp. baking soda
2 tsp. baking powder
1 3/4 cup flour
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 cup oil.
I usually use sour milk since I normally do not have buttermilk on hand. To sour milk add 1 1/2 Tbs. vinegar to the milk and let it sit while you gather the other ingredients.
Mix together by hand and pour into preheated waffle maker that has been sprayed with Pam. We like waffles on the lighter side (as in color) Extras, if there are any, can be frozen and reheated in the toaster.
Top with whipped cream and strawberries for your Valentine or if you are like us, just butter and lots of Door County Maple syrup.
Have a great weekend.
